2026 Tournament Report

Another successful year for the NTTL Closed Tournament, as despite having a few of our tournament regulars unavailable for various reasons we had more junior events than last year, and two ladies’ groups.
The O50s and O60s events were held the following day, the entire thing running out of our new venue at Lings in Weston Favell. This is the first major event we have run at the venue, and all things considered it appears to have gone quite well.
We are not aware of any issues on the day that were related to the venue, lighting and space seemed to be adequate and all matches were completed within our allotted time.
We are always looking for ways to improve, and next time I hope to get the final report out much sooner. If anyone has any constructive suggestions and/or wishes to get involved to support this and any of our other events, please contact anyone on the committee and let them know.
Mystery Doubles
As always this event generated some strong pairings. The solid pairing of Wendy Bradford and Chris Gibbs got them through to the final, and in the other half the more attacking pair of Hartley Hancock and Andrii Yeremiia saw them topspinning their way past all their opponents in the other half.
Hartley and Andrii’s combined strong attacking game ended up winning the final fairly comfortably 11-9, 11-5, 11-8.

Runners-Up: Chris Gibbs/Wendy Bradford
Under 13 Singles
Theo Panton and Harry Cooper ended up battling each other in the final of this event, with Theo taking an end but Harry ending up winning 11-6, 11-5, 7-11, 11-5.

Runner-Up: Theo Panton
Under 15 Singles
Harry Cooper also played in the Under 15s but found an on-form Nathan Piotrowskii a bit too strong, Nathan winning 11-8, 11-3, 11-8.

Runner-Up: Harry Cooper
Under 18 Singles
Ethan York reached the final of the Under 18 Singles by defeating Nathan Piotrowskii in his semi-final, with Aiden Maguire winning his semi-final against Himal Kharel. Aiden ended up becoming Northampton Under 18 Singles champion after edging past Ethan 11-9, 13-11, 11-7.

Runner-Up: Ethan York
Under 18 Doubles
The two Under 18 Singles finalists paired up to take the Under 18 Doubles win, as Ethan York and Aiden Maguire eased past Nathan Piotrowskii and Harry Cooper 11-4, 11-8, 11-2.

Runners-Up: Nathan Piotrowskii/Harry Cooper
Senior Singles
This is always a well contested event. Nick Howard beat Ben Aldridge in one semi-final while Andreii Yeremiia played a strong game to get past Jordan Moss and then Dominic Barker to reach the final against Nick.
An extremely well-fought final match went the distance, with Nick taking the game in the fifth end 12-10, 8-11, 11-5, 4-11, 11-8.
Winner: Nick Howard
Runner-Up: Andrii Yeremiia
Senior Doubles
The Senior Doubles was a round-robin group of three. The pairing of Bronwen Grigg and Marlon Fearon ending up in third place, while the regular doubles pairing of Nick Howard and Dominic Barker proved too strong for runners-up Jordan Moss and Andrii Yeremiia, winning their encounter 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9.

Runners-Up: Jordan Moss/Andrii Yeremiia
Division 1 Singles
Andrii Yeremiia continued his success in the Division One Singles, reaching the final after defeating Chris Gibbs in the semi-final. In the other half of the draw John Nuttall had beaten both Ethan and Gavin York, and then Steve Carroll in his semi-final.
The final was a great match, John defending extremely well against Andrii’s fast attacking. In the end attack edged past defence on the day, with Andrii winning in three very close ends… 13-11, 11-9, 13-11.
Winner: Andrii Yeremiia
Runner-Up: John Nuttall
Division 2 Singles
After some adjudication related to Stefan Swift unfortunately having entered the wrong event, Hartley Hancock was the deserved winner, and Geoff Barber ending up in the runner-up spot.

Open Singles
We had 30 players enter the Open Singles. The following players were their respective group winners which took them through to the knockout section…

Jordan Moss defeated Jamie Chamberlain to get to the quarter-final against Andras Bayer. Clive Kelly beat Dominc Barker to set up a quarter-final against Adrian Piortrowskii.
Aiden Maguire continued his excellent day’s performance to get by Ben Aldridge in his quarter-final, and Nick Howard eased past John Stamp to face Piotrowskii in the semi-final, who had been untroubled by Clive Kelly in the previous round.
The semi-final between Aiden Maguire and Andras Bayer went to Andras, 11-9, 11-6, 11-3. The other semi-final was won by Adrian Piotrowskii as he beat Nick Howard 11-4, 11-4, 9-11, 11-6.
This set up a final between Andras and Adrian. Andras got off to a good start, both players playing all out attacking games, but Adrian ended up taking the next three ends to become 2026 Open Singles Champion, the scores being 6-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-6.

Runner-Up: Andras Bayer
Ladies Singles
We had two groups for the ladies’ singles for the first time in quite a few years. Jordan Moss won her group and Lena Sachita won hers. Jordan won the encounter in the final with the scores 11-9, 11-3, 11-4 to become 2026 Ladies’ Singles Champion, retaining the title once more.

Runner-Up: Lena Sachita
Over 40s Singles
15 players entered the Over 40s event. Liviu Ilie Manolache ended up facing Jamie Chamberlain in one semi-final, and Steve Carroll ended up with the seemingly indomitable Adrian Piotrowskii as his opponent in the other semi-final. Adrian and Jamie both won their respective matches and met in the final. Another attack versus defence game, Jamie defended well and put away the odd high ball when he could, but Adrian was in great form and took the match 11-9, 11-9, 11-8.
Winner: Adrian Piotrowskii
Runner-Up: Jamie Chamberlain
Over 40s Doubles
A slightly depleted Over 40s event due to event selection and a few absences meant there were only 4 matches in this event. Nevertheless, it was well contested as always. Jamie Chamberlain and regular partner Ian Baldock beat John Stamp and Stefan Swift in one semi-final, with Steve Carroll and Michael Daly defeating Julie Neal and Gavin York in the other semi-final. The Carroll/Daly pairing put in a valiant effort, but the experienced pairing of Chamberlain/Baldock won the final match 11-7, 11-7, 11-8.

Runner-Up: Steve Carroll/Mick Daly
Ladies Doubles
This year the Ladies’ Doubles was a straight final, with Jordan Moss and Wendy Bradford proving too strong for Julie Neal and Bronwen Grigg. The final scores were 11-7, 11-5, 11-9.

Runners-Up: Julie Neal/Bronwen Grigg
Men’s Doubles
Jamie Chamberlain and Ian Baldock took on the York pairing, Gavin and Ethan in the quarter-finals and won, setting up a semi-final against Andras Bayer and Clive Kelly, who had beaten Marlon Fearon and Liviu Ilie Manolache in their quarter-final match.
Nick Howard and Dominic Barker had beaten Aaron Donoghue and Charlie Moran, and then beat Andrii Yeremiia and Scott Dixon in the semi-final to reach the final against the Bayer/Kelly pairing who had beaten Chamberlain and Baldock in their semi-final.
Andras and Clive started well, taking the first end but the super-reliable Nick and Dominic stepped up their game and took the next three ends. The final scores were 8-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-5.

Runners-Up: Andras Bayer/Clive Kelly
Mixed Doubles
We had six pairs enter the mixed doubles, making this the best entry for this event in quite a few years. Carla Grady and Chris Gibbs ended up facing defending champions Jordan Moss and Nick Howard in the semi-final.
Lena Sachita paired up with Andras Bayer and faced Wendy Bradford and Andrii Yeremiia in the other semi-final.
Jordan and Nick won their match and so did Lena and Andras to set up a strong mixed doubles final. Jordan and Nick won a closely contested final and retained their title, 11-6, 11-9, 12-10.
Winners: Jordan Moss/Nick Howard
Runners-Up: Lena Sachita/Andras Bayer
Over 50s Singles
This event had 12 entries, albeit a couple of last minute stand-ins as a couple of entrants couldn’t make it on the day due to injury and circumstance. It was run as 4 groups of 3, with the group winners being:
Group A: Albert Pang
Group B: Martin Hall
Group C: Jamie Chamberlain
Group D: Darren Ward
Albert Pang beat Jamie Chamberlain in one semi-final, and Martin Hall beat Darren Ward in the other semi-final. The final was a close match, Martin showing patience against Albert’s changes in pace and spin, eventually winning 11-9, 5-11, 11-5, 10-12, 11-6.
Winner: Martin Hall
Runner-Up: Albert Pang
Over 50s Singles Plate
On the day we had the time to play a plate competition for all the players that did not get through their groups, so 8 players in all.
Paul Malpass had beaten Wendy Bradford and then Stefan Swift to get to the final. Scott Dixon beat Paul Datsun and then Chris Gibbs in the semi-final. Scott won the final match against Paul, the scores being 11-4, 11-3, 6-11, 11-6.
Winner: Scott Dixon
Runner-Up: Paul Malpass
Over 50s Doubles
Martin Hall and Darren Ward paired up and took on Wendy Bradford in one semi-final. In the other semi-final Ian Baldock and Jamie Chamberlain came back from 2-0 down to book their place in the final against Martin and Darren who won their game.
Another very close match going the full distance, Martin and Darren winning 11-5, 8-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9 in what was still not the closet match of the day.

Runners-Up: Jamie Chamberlain/Ian Baldock
Over 60s Singles
Martin Hall had beaten Stefan Swift and then Paul Malpass in the semi-final to reach another final. In the other half, Jamie Chamberlain had beaten Hartley Hancock and then Albert Pang to face Martin in the final.
The closet match of the day, Martin eventually winning 11-8, 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 12-10.
Winner: Martin Hall
Runner-Up: Jamie Chamberlain
Over 60s Doubles
Albert Pang and Martin Hall paired up and defeated Paul Malpass and Paul Datson in their semi-final, while Jamie Chamberlain and Ian Baldock beat Wendy Bradford and Stefan swift in the other semi-final.
Albert and Martin ended up Over 60s Doubles Champions, winning 11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 11-2.
Winners: Albert Pang/Martin Hall
Runners-Up: Jamie Chamberlain/Ian Baldock
